Luminos App Reviews

Terrific

I used this for satellite tracking on my last camping trip. It works really well. Very simple to use UI, but not lacking of features for more advance star gazers. I recommend!

Lost in Space

This is by far the brightest star in my list of cosmology apps! Amazing is just the beginning of what is packed in this essential companion to the universe. Star gazing has never been easier, or more fun with countless destinations and information at your fingertips. Engage!

I like it

I have several astronomy apps, but this one is my favorite. The graphics are great and it’s the most fun to use by far.

Not Quite

Two things really bother me about this app. If I happen to touch the screen inadvertently it will mark an object, usually a star, and want to show info about it, etc., etc. when I do not want it. There is no way to simply turn it off! Im stuck with interfering data on the screen, in the way, that I cant get rid of. I find that VERY annoying! Also, why cant I have a simple horizon line instead of all the extra cluttering grid?? Otherwise it is a good app, it just over complicates itself. Update 9/8/16 After the latest update, this app has finally become what I had hoped for. I can easily clear the clutter and the horizon line now has a transparent option...two very good improvements. Worth the price, recommended!

Navigating by Stars

Finally I have found a celestial program where I can by name find (and now actually have an instant list of) the 57 stars recognized in the Nautical Almanac. This may appear on the face of it a trivial use of such a clearly capable program - however none of the other "paid for" celestial apps can do this, or even when asked and financially encouraged bother to make a list available in the app. Admittedly I had to list the stars from the Almanac in a custom list - its not a built-in (hint - hint!) butch that is a small ask. So, if you, as I use a sextant and an Nautical Almanac, this is the program for you.

Amazing details

Not cheap, but worth every penny. Every little detail about it is impressive, the animations, the giant image set, the support for new OS features, and especially the way it lets you easily fly to any destination. You can see that the author has a real vision in how to bring advanced astronomy to everyone. Lots of depth in this app, and very Apple-like. I’m super-impressed that they got the 100 million star catalog in here… that’s pretty wild!

Fantastic app for all astronomers

Whether youre doing unaided visual astronomy or using a powerful telescope, this is THE astronomy app.

The Best Astronomy App Keeps Getting Better

This is by far the best astronomy app and it just keeps getting better. Meteor showers are now included. Using the app I was even able to find and see the ISS in the real sky. It is good as a star-finder for celestial navigation and even allowed me to win a few bets with friends when trying to identify unknown bright celestial objects.

Best Observing Software

I have used this software for several years on my i-pad. Great photo, information, settings and tools. I use it instead of cumbersome star charts. Best all around observing tool for finding objects and your way around the sky!

Fun app

This is a very fun and informative app. Most features can be learned simply by tapping the buttons on the screen. If that is not enough, go to the browser and select users guide and there are professional informative videos on how to operate the app. The Video on the basics is slightly more then 5 min. So it wont waste your time. Selecting a planet, the app will fly through the solar system and orbit the selected planet. Features on it can be selected for more information. Or select a satellite and go "ride" it, So you can see the earth from that perspective. Fun to use and a serious astronomy tool also. My favorite astronomy app. I found the Andromeda galaxy a couple of nights ago using binoculars and was able to look up all the information on this app. It was really a delight to find and learn someone new.

Great but wont control AP Mount

Looks Great but wont control my AP mount with CP4. Connects but wont slew, park or do anything. Says timed out. Other competitors app works fine with mount.

The best astronomy app on iOS

This is hands down the BEST astronomy app on iOS. It might have the flashiest UI, or glittering effects, but its still darn pretty and is the most feature packed app of its kind. Ive bought almost all of them, including Redshift and Distant Suns, but this one is the only one that remains on my phone. To the devs, thank you. Sincerely. To everyone else, youd be doing yourself a disservice to pass this one up.

Fantastic Application

Over all it is a fantastic application and I highly recommend it. I had been using Planetarium for Palm OS for many years to track what was above my head and to plan searches with my telescope. It had also served as a replacement for the nautical almanac for celestial navigation. However, eventually time came to update and Palm was no longer. After searching I came across Luminos. This application gives me almost everything I need with out of this world graphics. In addition to assisting in locating natural celestial bodies, the tracking of manmade satellites becomes a breeze. I was able to identify the international space station when it would have been easily confused with just another flight out of MIA. Updates occur regularly without glitches. The only thing missing are the meteor showers. I have already contacted the developers and they assured me that they are looking into this.

Awesome

Tons of info. Not for beginners. Worth every $.

Luminos-astronomy companion for IOS

One of the most informative astronomy apps Ive ever seen. So much information at a touch ! Great work guys!! Well worth the price.

Best astronomy app for iOS!

Pro feature set and active development make this the best astronomy app for iOS. Very pleased.

Well done

Very beautiful app , well done. U tube videos to help learn the app although it is very intutive. The item I wish it had was auto sync to the sky when you hold it up. Some other apps have this feature and I like it a lot. I withheld a star on that.

Awesome

I have been using this app for several months. I only began to really appreciate it when I used it to help locate Comet ISON. The multitude of features make it more useful for more advanced users, although still easy enough for everyone to use. It is easily my most used astro app. Dont hesitate, buy it today! You will NOT be disappointed!

Nerd heaven

I bought it as a information tool along side my telescope... Found out later I t will auto guide and remote control my telescope! Night vision settings, browse functions, orbit from the perspective of a planet, planetary moon, even satellites like ISS and Hubble. Still finding new things each time I use the app. Worth every penny.

Great app

Great app and I would highly recommend it to any astronomer. Though I have one very small problem on the telescope settings under eyepiece I put a 6.3 mm and a 3.6 mm eyepiece and it rounds them up to 6 and 4 respectively Im not sure if that changes anything though, but I assume it does.thanks and again great app.
